“New possibilities of imaging methods in conservation”
Imaging is used in everyday conservation practice, starting from photography in different wavelengths (VIS, UV, IR), giving a wealth of information for conservators. Essential imaging for conservation documentation, in the smaller museums, is often performed by conservators themselves.
With the development of the collaboration between physicists, chemists, engineers in the field of image processing, and conservators, new information can be obtained. This information offers a new level of understanding of the processes that can threaten the artwork, as well as add new data to our understanding of the artwork.
