Nikolaos Laskaris is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering of the University of West Attica in the field of "Electronics with emphasis on the use of techniques with applications in Art and the Environment". He has a degree in Electronic Engineering specialized in industrial electronics from the Department of Electronics of Technological Educational Institute of Lamia. He has further specialized (doctoral and postdoctoral research) in non-destructive analysis techniques and their application in the study of artworks, archaeological finds and materials and devices used in environmental applications. During his doctoral research, he studied the effects of water diffusion in amorphous silica glass from volcanic sources and consequently introduced improvements on the method for dating prehistoric tools. At the same time, he worked on research projects on micro- and nano- electronic technology. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher on significant research projects such as a) the characterization of defects in CdTe / CdZnTe monocrystalline structures and b) the study and documentation using non-destructive techniques of Byzantine and post-Byzantine ecclesiastical metalworks of eastern Thessaly. From 2011 to 2021, he worked as an adjunct lecturer at the Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands, at the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus and the University of West Attica. Over the last ten years, he has been a reviewer of articles for several international scientific journals (Elsevier, Springer and MDPI) and twice in the years 2019 and 2020 he has judged proposals for the National Science Foundation of the USA. He is a member of the Hellenic Archaeometric Society and the Hellenic Section of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
