The Doctoral Studies Program of the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering of the School of Engineering of the University of West Attica is organized and operates in accordance with the regulations of the relevant Greek Laws and the general institutional framework as in effect.
The PhD is an academic degree certifying that the holder has carried out in-depth original scientific research and has contributed to the advancement of up-to-date scientific knowledge by independently delivering scientific results in the relevant scientific field.
The Doctoral Studies Program of the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering of the School of Engineering of the University of West Attica provides expertise in the wider knowledge fields of the Department and other related fields.
The primary scope of the PhD Programme of the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering is to contribute to the development of researchers for the advancement of science and the further improvement of applications. The aim is for PhD Candidates to produce original and innovative scientific research in all scientific fields treated in the Department and/or in fields with which these sciences collaborate and interact in the context of essential interdisciplinary approaches, so as to be able to staff universities, research centres, enterprises and private/public sector organisations in Greece and abroad.
The Doctoral Thesis is elaborated under the supervision of a faculty member (Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor) of the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering, who has the main duty of guiding the Doctoral Candidate. In accordance with the Department's Regulation for Doctoral Studies (available in Greek) a three-member Advisory Committee is appointed by the Department Assembly on the recommendation of the Supervisor, in order to support the doctoral research of the candidate.
The minimum time frame for the award of a Doctoral Degree is three (3) full calendar years since the date of the Advisory Committee appointment, while the indicative maximum time is six (6) full calendar years.
In order for the Doctoral Degree to be awarded, sufficient published work in high quality journals and conferences is required along with the successful support of the Doctoral Thesis before a seven-member Examination Committee. As the awarding date of the Doctoral Degree is considered the date of the successful support of the Doctoral Dissertation.
