The Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering encourages the interconnection of education and research and, at the same time, promotes research activities of the teaching staff in the context of their personal strategy for the development of their scientific and research activities in their fields of scientific interest. Faculty members are also active in the context of many institutional partnerships between the Department and the University, as well as an extensive network of informal personal contacts. They are also active within the Department's Research Laboratories.

As of December 2021, the Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WITS University - Johannesburg South Africa and UTAR University - Malaysia to exchange research expertise on issues related to the strategic priorities of the Department.
Finally, the Department supports and promotes national and international collaborations with other Departments of Higher Education Institutions such as the Department of Physics of the University of Thessaly and Greek and international organizations.
